I am so happy to have some time off from teaching to write! And snack on delicious holiday treats. And have amazing meals that take longer than 5-10 minutes to eat. I love the holidays.

Book three is over half way written now and has taken turns I didn’t anticipate. I’m excited to see where the characters take me next.

What’s my process? Always listen to the characters. My kids and I verbally process through ideas and possibilities for each character. What is their arc? What are their stories? Then, when I sit down to write, I follow where the character leads me. My children are the backbone to creating interesting scenes as they offer the best ideas and suggestions. They’re also not afraid to tell me what’s NOT a good idea.

Just before winter break, I was able to check in with some of my favorite fans and Kim, one of my best supporters. She keeps my books in prominent places in her classroom. I am blessed to have worked alongside her teaching students not only to love to read, but to love writing as well.

As a side note, check out this lovely portrait painted by my coworker Ben. Our staff was tasked with painting each other for a staff meeting. This is the result.
